The concept of 'SmartSchool' has now existed in different parts of the world for many years. Few educators will agree on a common definition of the term SmartSchool ; hence, what you will find within these pages is the Beaconshouse interpretation of this somewhat open-ended concept. This interpretation is the cumulative result of 27 years of experience in education with years of experience in curriculum design, not to mention two years of pre SmartSchool experience at The Discovery Centre.
It is generally agreed that the word ‘Smart’ in SmartSchool refers to the smart use of technology in facilitating the delivery of curricular objectives. It may be also be inferred that smart schools produced ‘smarter’ students whose conceptual understanding of thir school subjects runs deeper and is more intuitive then that of students at conventional schools.
The effective harnessing of technology is a key element at smart schools. More enlightened smart schools always try to use technology in ways that enrich and add value to the leaning process…as opposed to using technology for the sake of using technology, a temptation that many smart schools find hard to resist.
Discovery Centre Lahore was the first to launch its SmartSchool in September 2003, for the academic year 2003-2004. The vision behind the SmartSchool was to deliver the standard Beaconhouse school curriculum fo full-time students through the effective use of technology...in other words, to put our philosophy into practice on a full-time basis, with full-time students.
